چکیده

We apply language theory to compare the expressive power of infinite-state models that extend Petri nets with features like colored tokens and/or whole place operations. Specifically, we consider extensions of Petri nets in which tokens carry pure names dynamically generated with special ν-transitions (νPN) and compare their expressiveness with transfer and reset nets with black indistinguishable tokens (Affine Well-Structured Nets), and nets in which tokens carry data taken from a linearly ordered domain (Data nets and CMRS). All these models are well-structured transitions systems. In order to compare these models we consider the families of languages they recognize, using coverability as accepting condition. With this criterion, we prove that ν-PNs are in between AWNs and Data Nets/CMRS, but equivalent to an extension of ν-PN with whole-place operations. These results extend the currently known classification of the expressive power of well-structured transition systems. Finally, we study several problems regarding (coverability) languages of AWN and ν-PN.

Reset nets between decidability

We study Petri nets with Reset arcs (also Transfer and Doubling arcs) in combination with other extensions of the basic Petri net model. While Reachability is undecidable in all these extensions (indeed they are Turing-powerful), we exhibit unexpected frontiers for the decid-ability of Termination, Coverability, Boundedness and place-Boundedness. In particular, we show counter-intuitive separat...

Decidability Results for Restricted Models of Petri Nets with Name Creation and Replication

In previous works we defined ν-APNs, an extension of P/T nets with the capability of creating and managing pure names. We proved that, though reachability is undecidable, coverability remains decidable for them. We also extended P/T nets with the capability of nets to replicate themselves, creating a new component, initially marked in some fixed way, obtaining g-RN systems. We proved that these...

Petri Games are Monotonic but Difficult to Decide?

In this paper, we study two-player games played on infinite but monotonic game structures. We concentrate on coverability games, a natural subclass of reachability games in the context of monotonic game structures. On the negative side, we show that surprisingly, and contrary to the one-player case, coverability is undecidable on two-player monotonic game structures. On the positive side, we id...

Decidability Problems in Petri Nets with Names and Replication

In this paper we study decidability of several extensions of P/T nets with name creation and/or replication. In particular, we study how to restrict the models of RN systems (P/T nets extended with replication, for which reachability is undecidable) and ν-RN systems (RN extended with name creation, which are Turing-complete, so that coverability is undecidable), in order to obtain decidability ...

Minimal Cost Reachability/Coverability in Priced Timed Petri Nets

We extend discrete-timed Petri nets with a cost model that assigns token storage costs to places and firing costs to transitions, and study the minimal cost reachability/coverability problem. We show that the minimal costs are computable if all storage/transition costs are non-negative, while even the question of zero-cost coverability is undecidable in the case of general integer costs.
